FAQs
What is a typical class like?
Most classes start with a warmups and general drills that you use during Jiu-Jitsu or Judo. Then will begin with an instructor demonstrating techniques for the class. The students will then practice those techniques with their fellow students and drill to develop reflex and skill. The instructors will help you with questions and correct the students during drilling in class.
Do I need to be in shape to start training?
No! It does not matter of your fitness level; you will be challenged during your training! The most important thing is that you are out there trying a new thing or trying to get back in shape. If you have an injury or disability, it’s no problem! You do what you can and there is no judgement! Everyone has to start somewhere and the fact that you are out there giving it a try is the most important thing!
Why do I have to wear a Gi?
Gi’s have been an integral part of BJJ and Judo training for over 100 years. Many times, the Gi’s will simulate what people will wear on the streets and will allow us to practice attacking, defending and controlling your opponent. People don’t wear Gi’s on the streets, but they do wear shirts and jackets that can be grabbed and used against an attacker.
Why is it important to learn ground fighting?
In real life, 73 percent of all fights go to the ground. Regardless of the training or background of the fighters or attackers, a high percentage of all fights or attacks end-up on the ground. Jiu-Jitsu and Judo have demonstrated time and again that these techniques are ones you need in case you are attacked. Even a smaller person can defend against and defeat a larger opponent though ground grappling. You can learn these much need techniques in both Jiu-Jitsu and Judo.
